Mangala restaurant and bar is a Mangalorean cuisine lover’s haven
While talking essentially about authentic Mangalorean cuisine, it’s safe to say that Mangala restaurant and bar has been arguably reigning since 1981! Dishes that are a bar apart served with the utmost panache that only a true blue Mangalorean would get is what makes the place close to the hearts of those who reside here. From being the ultimate hangout during college days to the ideal spot for a friends reunion, a Sunday night home delivery with the folks or just a craving for Mangalorean food by the NRI’s, Mangala restaurant and bar is the stuff of legend.

Pretty much everything served here is excellent, and that’s especially true of their Pork specialties. The service is friendly and agile, and they’re quick to spell out the best in-house drinks and food.
Simple sannas are ideal and pair well with the chicken masala. Although, the real treat is to dive into a plate of bacon wrapped prawns.
While the cocktails menu is impressive, it’s the Long Island Iced tea that will ultimately win your heart. The mango mojito is another spicy and well-made drink, and while the combination of booze and good food is intoxicating, Mangala restaurant and bar boasts of an equally rhythmic playlist.
Mangalorean’s love for seafood reflects well in the seafood specialties at Mangala, the prominent ones being fish fry masala and the good ol’ fish curry meals. The squid tava masala is finger-licking good and drool-worthy, as is the Paneer mushroom chilly for the vegetarian palate.
Apart from their winning dishes like the chicken ghee roast, spicy kheema with cheese or the pork vindaloo, one cannot visit Mangala without trying their signature dish: the infamous phat Freddie burger, loaded with extra cheese and bacon, that is sure to tempt even the anti-burger squad. Sample one for yourself and you’ll know what we mean. The burger comes with choices of meat and fish as well, but our hearts set on the bacon.
Nevertheless, no trip to Mangala is complete without the Freddie, and once you try it, you’ll be quick to agree!
Mangala is one of the more popular restaurants of the Mangalore dining season, so for great results, head there early on a lazy weeknight. Rest assured, and it is worth every penny and time spent for the feeling of comfort food reminiscent of your mother’s cooking.
