Mangalore – 575029
Pavoor Uliya is an Island, located just 12 km away from Mangalore. The island has around 35 houses with a chapel and government school(which is closed). Netravathi River has been surrounded by four sides.
There is a meaning behind the name “Pavoor Uliya”. Uliya means “left over or remaining land”. The geography looks like jagged oval shape.
The basic source of leaving here is fishing and agriculture. Coconut trees and few other fruit trees like mango, jack-fruit are grown here.
During summer a temporary wooden bridge connects to the outer world. In Rainy season a common passenger boat meets the needs of transport from and to this Island. There are no street lights, no shops and no medical assistance inside the island.
To reach to this place, come towards Adyar (near Sahyadri college), then walk towards the river side which is approximately 1 kM. and from there you need to catch a boat towards the Island. Most of the times, there will only be one boat and this boat will be available from morning to evening.
