Grubbery – Always Hungry (Resto – Cafe)Kanachur Avenue |
From small town comfort to continental extravaganza, have a look at Grubbery
If small excursions outside the city sound invigorating to you, then you must certainly visit Grubbery – always hungry, a resto Cafe located in Derlakatte, opposite Yenepoya University. Although, one is always tempted to return to familiar restaurants within Mangalore, it can be refreshing to occasionally visit eateries that lie beyond city limits. Long drives that culminate into an exceptional dining experience are perfect, especially with a pleasantly nippy weather.
‘Always hungry’, as the inviting tagline says is pretty much what we all are and at Grubbery, the excellent service, ambiance and array of dishes served are sure to fix that. Mangaloreans, who are forever on the lookout for palatable continental cuisine are in for a feast, with Grubbery’s varied and constantly upgrading menu; given that a sizable chunk of their customers are students from the surrounding area.
Grubbery dishes up some amazing starters, (Jalapeño poppers, chicken skewers in peanut sauce, chicken and cheese croquettes) but there’s no doubting their primary draw: Greek lemon chicken with garlic Aioli. Tender, juicy chicken, long on flavour coupled with the garlic Aioli sauce hits all the right chords! Surprisingly, another recommendation is their Fisherman’s soup, which we didn’t quite expect to enjoy so much, but the tangy, exotic flavours sure make this one a winner!
Nasi goreng,(literally meaning “fried rice”), a Malaysian speciality is all kinds of awesome. Try it on a breezy evening and breathe a contented sigh.
The crispy prawn burger with coleslaw is heft and tightly packed, but are, nonetheless, juicy bombs that were wolfed down in short order.
Another must-try dish would be chicken and spinach lasagna. If perfection took the form of pasta, this would be it: bursting with cheesy goodness, rich and creamy. Also, big enough to fill you up and come back later for tea and ice cream sundae monster shakes. Speaking of which, Charlie brown and Red velvet served in Mason jars are crowd favourites and rightly so.
Grubbery has a carefully curated collection of waffles and pancakes; throw in some chocolate sauce, ice cream or maple syrup, and you’re good to go. Non-meat eaters are in for a treat too: Eggless scramble, Fruit platter or their tasty green day breakfast are all great options from their all day breakfast line up.
With a premise that is devastatingly simple, yet exemplary and a menu that is padded-out with a repertoire of dishes, Grubbery is out-and-out a gastronomic treat.
