A stone’s throw from St Aloysius college, Brio Cafe and grill is an idyllic place to be cut off from the city’s hustle and bustle, while still ironically nestling amidst it. Warm and luxurious, one wouldn’t mind being stranded here with its impossibly pretty decor and feel-good food that arguably reaches its zenith.

The intricately placed indoor plants, unique wall pieces, and artifacts, coupled with amazing views of the city and infectious chatter transports you into another era, giving you the feel of a 1920s Parisian bistro.

To top this already snug ambiance is the menu brimming with painstakingly prepared crowd-pleasers that easily qualifies as food for the soul. The student-friendly vibe extends well beyond ‘study, chill’ with their combo offers. Among our top recommendations are the baked stuffed mushrooms drowning in an avalanche of liquid cheese, this one is sure to please the staunchest non-vegetarian skeptic. Cut to another dish that is as delightful as it appears, if not more, are the chicken skewers served with Brio Cafe’s superlative in-house sauce. Marinated in olive oil, mixed herbs, lemon and sauce we vouch for this one.

The grilled fish served here, is another killer dish. Every element – the oyster sauce, fresh herbs, zesty lemon – work together. It has taste and texture.

For the mains, we suggest you opt for their steaks, which are mouth-watering. Additionally, Brio Cafe serves some of Mangalore’s best pizzas with a delicious thin crust and quality ingredients. That said, overlooking their pasta would be unfair; their veg pesto pasta is superb. To wash it all down are some refreshing coolers of which we favor the green apple and kiwi, and for something more massive, their creamy milkshakes could do the trick.

As a final flourish, the Oreo Nutella cheesecake is the go-to dessert on their menu, or you could settle for a plate of warm brownies topped with ice cream.

With a creative approach to fine dining that stands apart and a never boring selection of food, this cozy little alfresco parcel of peace is the haven we’ve been wanting.
