If you’re someone who swears by this mantra as well, then we present to you one of the city’s most loved bakery cum Café – Baker’s treat from Mariam’s Kitchen. A beautiful minimalist inviting space, on Mother Theresa’s road, bang opposite Platinum Theater, where you could lose count of hours spent chilling with friends, but you know coming from us it can’t be all that simple. What’s going to make you come back for more (besides the sweetness resting on the display counters), is the concept of board games, that is reminiscent of a lovely childhood for every 90s kid out there. That’s right; if you would like to hold onto the last ounce of those precious memories or create newfound ones with your friends or kids, then Baker’s Treat is the place to be! Grab a book, settle onto a bean bag while you enjoy delectable treats or haul yourself into the outdoor seating area and watch the sunset while you sip a cooler.

With a flurry of new eateries engulfing Mangalore in the past couple of years, this is comparatively a quieter, more peaceful part of the city making for a serene atmosphere that is synonymous with Baker’s Treat and all that it offers. The owner, Mariam Mohiudeen, an incredibly warm and talented self-taught baker, was a runner-up at Dubai’s Masterchef and the shelves of Baker’s treat is merely a stage to showcase her labour of love and fantastic baking skills.

We are huge fans of her Oreo fudge brownie, that is a slab of fudgy, gooey Oreo goodness as well as the moist chocolate cupcake that’ll have you licking your fingers. Our other recommendations include Peri Peri chicken burger that has a delicious pate and comes with a side of fries and sauce, the cheesy nachos as well as the chicken and cheese puffs- tiny explosions of chicken and cheese that melt in the mouth. Coffee lovers, this is your dream destination, grab a mug or two with a cupcake on the side or better yet, dive into a portion of Blueberry cheesecake.
If flavours, comfort and warmth are the heart of the space, then the Tree of Growth adorning the wall is undoubtedly the soul. The chic, beautiful symbol with whimsical branches has pictures of their journey from 1986 till now. What’s more, Mariam creates customised cakes for any occasion and conducts baking workshops occasionally for those budding bakers.
