Craving some TamBram food like Pulisadam or Pongal in Mangaluru? Head to ‘Chennai Food festival’ at the Hotel BMS and treat yourself to a host of flavors from the southern tip of India. The food festival is at their vegetarian signature Palm Grove restaurant!
The food festival kick started on Friday, September 8, and has been a crowd puller.
Think Chennai, Think Superstar Rajanikanth! A human size cut-out of the thalaiva welcomes you at the outset. The hotel has A selfie kiosk with guests clicking pictures with cut outs of Rajni, Shahrukh and Deepika Padukone from Chennai express. They also have a selfie contest running on their social media (Log into their Facebook page for more details)
As one enters the hotel, staff dressed in lungi welcomes with a smile and says “Vanakkam” bringing in the Chennai vibe. “This is the first time anyone is organizing Chennai Food festival’ in Mangalore. We have brought down a Chennai based chef especially for this festival so that we can serve authentic food to our people” said Rahul Ballal, Management head.
The exhaustive special Thali has rasam, sambhar, kootu, chutney and rice items changing every day. On ordering the special Thali, the waiter brings you panakam and a series of dishes in the Thali, sweet endings -you are served payasam, ice cream, and Tamil Nadu special boli. You can add oodles of ghee and podi to your rice as a generous amount of ghee is placed on your table.
“An innovative dish we have introduced is the breadfruit (Jeegujje) Biryani in Ambur style. The response has been excellent.” Adds Rahul. The a la carte menu specially designed for the Chennai food festival has varuval, dosa, variety Idli, kothu parota which is a best seller and a special mention to the Madurai famous Jigarthanda which is a new favorite at the fest.
The colors used for this festival are bright, to bring out the essence of Tamil Nadu. The menu is well thought, and the dishes are picked from every district of Tamil Nadu. On the first page of the menu, they have the breakfast menu that has various kinds of idlies ranging from their signature podi idli to their latest add on that is the idli fry! The dosas, starters, rice variety and the list goes on.
